How to Change Chart And Candle Colors In MT4

Changing the Candlestick and Chart Colors in MT4 is very easy and in this article you will find out how.

I don’t know about you but one of the first things I noticed when I started to work with MetaTrader was the color scheme. It didn’t suit my taste and it was one of the first things I changed. I assume that you will want to change the MT4 Default Colors as well.

What Is The MT4 Default Color

The MT4 Default Color Scheme is the color configuration of candles and charts that comes with your Metatrader Client.

The Default MT4 Chart colors depend on the installation client, but you can change it to your preferred one with some simple steps.

In the screenshot you can see the default colors in my MT4 installations:

  • Black background
  • Green candles

We have extensively talked about MT4 Templates in this article and it is important to remember that Colors are part of the MT4 Templates.

You can change the default color scheme that is applied when you open a new chart in MT4.

To change the MT4 Default Colors for Chart and Candles:

  1. Right Click the chart and select Properties
  2. In the Colors tab set your preferred colors for chart background and foreground
  3. Set the colors for Bars, Candlesticks and wicks
  4. Set the other colors if necessary
  5. Click Ok
  6. Right Click the chart and select Templates
  7. Save the template naming it “Default
  8. All new charts will now open with the default colors

To change the colors you need to right click the chart and select properties.

Default Color Scheme

I prefer to work with colored candlestick on a white background so I usually start from a black on white

After that I then tweak the colors of the bars and wicks.

I then change the chart to candlestick, adjust the zoom and the following is the result.

Color Scheme VS Template In Metatrader

It is important to remember the difference between Color Scheme and Template.

In Metatrader the Template is the group of configuration applied to the chart.

So we can say that the Template includes:

  • Color Scheme
  • Indicators
  • Parameters of the indicators
  • Expert Advisors
  • Parameters of the expert Advisors
  • Candlestick style

So in other words you can see the Color Scheme as a subset of the Template.

You can see how to configure a Template in this article, however it is the same as the color scheme.
